Hiding what you eat is a type of emotional eating

Sneaky eating is just one type of emotional eating.

Emotional eating forms over years, it is not instant, so it will not be easy to burst it for good.

It can feel like you are out of control, that you need to eat but that you don’t want others to see you.

Sneaking off to another room or even driving in the car, then trying to hide the evidence. Wrappers stuffed under car seats, or at the bottom of the bin.

Sneaky eating can also be eating at the office before you leave at the end of the day or on the way home.  Then eating a full dinner with the family less than a few hours later.

It is about people not seeing the full picture, if they can’t see it then you don’t have to admit it.

Like you, I ate emotionally, and occassionaly do now. Difference is, I control it, it does not control me. I do not feel out of control.

Start with small changes

Sneaking food did not happen overnight, just like any habit it formed over time so will take time to burst.

Great news – it can be changed.

It does take time, most want instant results, a magic pill.

I have tried them, they are false promises.  Instead I guide my clients through small changes while discovering why we formed the habit. With time and a little effort you find out why you sneak food and change.

The weight starts to come off.

Lets start with 3 small things.

You may not know you are changing habits, that is the perfect.  It should not feel difficult, or a struggle.

    1. Take photos or write down everything you put in your mouth over one week, no matter how little.
    2. Schedule in one snack between each meal and eat without hiding, never in your car or while travelling.
    3. Chew slowly, enjoy what you are eating and savour each bite.
